Water Purification

Households and businesses that operate on a private water well generally require some treatment for the water supply. Our technicians will provide water testing on you water well supply and size your equipment based on the test results. Not all water treatment units are the same, each unit has water quantity requirements, maximum mineral removal capabilities, and different filter bed options. A water sample is necessary to be able to size your water treatment based on your water quality specifically. The following is a simple explanation of what each water treatment unit is intended for.

Water Softeners

Picture
Hardness in your water supply is caused mostly by calcium and magnesium minerals in your water well. These minerals can cause a buildup of an off-white material on your plumbing fixtures, cause a restriction inside your water supply lines, and do damage to your dish washer and washing machine. The off-white buildup is calcium stearate, soap mostly consists of sodium stearate, a high calcium stearate content will not allow soap to leather properly, this is a simple indicator that your well water should be treated with a water softener. Soft water will allow dish washers and washing machines to work properly, prolong the life of all of your plumbing components, and make your skin and hair noticeably healthier.

Iron Filters

Water with high counts of iron or sulfur should have an iron filter installed to help remove the mineral counts from getting through to your household plumbing. Without an iron filter your plumbing, faucets, and utilities can become clogged or get ruined due to high iron counts. Iron can be linked to orange staining in sinks and tubs, plumbing becoming restricted or blocked completely, and most noticeably your hair staining orange. Iron should be treated if any amounts are found in your water supply, mainly because it is easier to remove the iron minerals than it is to completely replace your plumbing.

Case: The copper pipe image is from a house with a high iron count from the water well supply. The plumbing directly off of the pressure tank had an extreme buildup of iron inside of the 3/4" copper piping. The home owner called because every time a second water faucet was turned on, the kitchen would lose water pressure significantly. A large portion of the plumbing had to be replaced, and an iron filter was installed directly off the pressure tank to prevent this from happening again. This situation turned out to be quite costly for the homeowners and could have been prevented.

Inline Filters

Inline filters are used prevent small sediment from entering your household plumbing or to eliminate minor taste and odour in your well water. Sediment filters stop small particles of sand and other material that may be picked up by your water well pump from passing through to your faucets. Carbon filters remove any minor odours and tastes from the water, these are generally used after an iron filter or softener to remove the last bit of iron and sulfur from the water. Some household UV Systems have these 2 filters preinstalled as part of the UV System to provide the purest tasting water.

UV Systems

Picture
The water content in you water well is susceptible to bacteria at different times of the year. Taking water samples at various times throughout the year will inform you of any bacteria issues, a UV System will ensure that the bacteria is eliminated before reaching your faucets. UV Systems allow well water to pass by a lamp that emits ultra violet lights which kills bacteria that passes by, eliminating the risk of your family being exposed to harmful bacteria.
